when i tried to get the update today, it said that my ipod firmware could not be updated because there wa a problem with the device. so now my ipod is in restore mode, but when i tried to restore it, it said that the ipod could not be restored because and unknown problem occurred. plz help me!

I'll bump this up since I'm having the same problem. It was sporadically recognized by iTunes, but the damn thing at least worked. It crashed when I tried to update it. I've done the 5 Rs Apple recommends more than twice. Gamer, if you have an Apple store near you, I'd take it there if all else fails. That's what I'm gonna do.
My brother managed to fix it on his MacBook. The moment of truth will be if XP recognizes it.
