iPod touch iPod isn't recognized after system downgrade

My iPod touch isn't getting recognized by my computer anymore. It charges it, but it never shows up in iTunes or on my desktop. The problem occurred after I downgraded my MacBook Pro (Archive and Install) from OS X 10.5 to OS X 10.4 I installed the new iTunes (7.6.1) and also updated 10.4 to 10.4.11 and restarted and it still didn't recognize my iPod. I've tried resetting the entire iPod and restoring it entirely to factory defaults but it still isn't getting picked up. Any ideas?
