I charged my ipod mini using an IBM Thinkpad 600E (model 6245) with windows 98 (I load songs from a friends windows 2000 Dell PC).

The ipod does not turn on, after fully charging it using the IBM!!??

I have tried resetting it, but that did not work.

Does it harm the ipod mini if I charge it using a windows 98 operating system??

I would appreciate any advice and possible fixes.

Thanks,

Evan

Are you sure it was actually charging? My iPod turned off on me once when I was syncing it with my old Windows PC, which is how I realized that it didn't charge through firewire for some reason.

I didn't know you could use an iPod with Win '98 ????

Did the Mini ever come in a Firewire only model? if so most PC based laptops wouldn't be able to charge it, unless they had true Firewire cards. Most 1394 interfaces will not supply voltage to an ipod device to charge it.
