I never knew Apple fixed scratches. Unless it's a manufacturing defect, they'll send the exact same one back.

If you did have a manufac. defect, you would get your laser engraving.

no, in like a year, when the battery dies, THEN will they send it back with the engraving?

Yes- if they give you a new/refurb iPod, it'll have the engraving.
