When I synced my 2nd gen Nano I had 2.5mb of photos on it, after the sync was done it said that it didn't copy photos to the iPod because it didn't have enough space yet iTunes says I have 32mb of free space on the iPod, what gives? I know I can just uncheck some songs to gain space and get the photos, but it seems to me I have plenty of space for 2.5mb of photos.

Same thing happened to me. I was  until I realized that the "other" stuff (at the bottom of the iPod window in iTunes) had increased.
Also, keep in mind that you might have enough space, but if you set the iPod to store the full res versions it creates a thumbnail for each photo, which takes up space as well.

Yeah, I thought that might have something to do with it so I disabled that right away.
