iPod iPod Nano: Memory almost full, but I have no songs on.

I recently bought an iPod Nano... I have tried today putting my songs on but when I go to update my iPod it only allowed on 5 songs before saying there was no more space.

I took those five songs off so that my nano is now completley empty.
However -

Used: 1.80GB
Free: 21.2MB

Can anyone help? I'm not very good at this....

in you utilities folder there should be a ipod updater in it restore the iPod, that should work.

Right click on the drive, choose Properties, click Disk Cleanup. That should clean up some space.

if you have a folder called iPod in your Program Files folder, you might be able to find an app called iPod Updater in there. this app 1) erases the ipod and restores it to factory condition (internally, wont get out those scratches), 2) updates it to the latest firmware. this thing gets rid of almost any ipod problems short of hardware failure.

The iPod drive/disk should be listed in Explorer (just press Windows key+E). I'm not sure what it's named by default. Probably iPod-something.

If it's not there, you might have to use iTunes to turn on hard disk mode or something (Edit > Preferences > iPod, in iTunes).

Edit: Nevermind. If you can get the iPod Updater working, it's probably better.

Yes that did come up, but while it was initializing, it came up saying 'Internal error'

be more specific. what said "Internal Error"? was it windows, the ipod updater app, the screen on the ipod? where'd you see that?

It says "internal manager error" on the ipod updater ap.

i've never seen anything like that. my suggestion would be to remove and reinstall the the iPod Updater App. control panel>add/remove programs to remove it, then go to that link I gave earlier to download the new, latest version of it. hopefully if you uninstall then reinstall the Updater program it will replace any problems there are.

Try this:

1)Connect your Ipod to your computer
2)Once connected go to the following:
Start>>Programs>>Ipod

If you can't find Programs>>Ipod, then you still have to install the ipod software, do that by installing the disk included with the software.

Ok, once in Start>>Programs>>Ipod, you should see Ipod Updater followed by a date. Go into that folder, and then click the thing again. This is where everyone said that it failed. Do what they said to redownload the program if it fails again. If it doesn't, can you please type out the EXACT error (even with the error code and everything, I can help you, as I develop programs for PCs). A file in your registry is probably corrupt and you'll have to fix it.

A thing should pop up, and once everything is ready (once initialization is complete) click "Restore".

Now check if it is ok, if it isn't, then just call apple and tell them that you've allready tried to restore.

I don't know if this is your problem, but I had a similar problem with my ipod shuffle, where I thought I deleted the songs but they were still on there. What I had to do was to empty the trash (or recycle bin in windows) and it cleared my ipod so it had it's free space back. So try that with your ipod connected with your computer.
