Updated to 4.2, and transferred iPod content to my Mac as prompted. Tried to download new content (podcasts) from iTunes to my iPhone iPod, they go thru the download process, but don't show up as content on my iPod (even though under download in iTunes, it shows a purchased button.

Are these downloads going to my Mac, or do I need to resync or something? I'd thought that I should be able to download new content without resyncing?

It happened to me as well. I had checked "manually manage music and videos", and after upgrading to 4.2 my iPod library in my iPhone was showing "no content".

Solution:

Plug in the iPhone. Under Devices/your iPhone go to Music - uncheck random song - wait for sync - afterwards it should be fine.

Enjoy :)
