When I tried to use my iPod this morning, it showed the "OK to disconnect" message. I immediately tried flipping the hold switch and doing a hard reset. No response. I plugged it in and tried to reset it again. Nothing.

I'm at work right now, so I don't have access to my mac, but when I plug it into my pc at work, it says that I need to update my firmware. When I update the firmware, it still shows the same "OK to disconnect" error. I reconnect and it asks to update the firmware again.

Has anyone ever had this problem?

Thanks,

Update..

Last night I connected it to my iBook and it showed up. Just like the Windows box, it asks to update to the latest version of the iPod software. After the second update I quit trying and put it off to the side.

During the night the battery wore down completely and it was dead in the morning. When I finally plugged it in this morning, the iPod finally finished the sotware update. Success! The iPod seems to be working fine.

FYI - I have a 30 GB 3rd generation iPod.
