Ok, I got my wife an 8GB iPod 4th gen to mainly use for music and taking little pictures... as this was her 1st one we figured out that she really needs the 32GB...

The question - I can get an older 16GB 3GS for the same or less than I can get a decent 32GB iPod - so for the purpose of pictures/facetime/music/games (pretty much anything but making calls) which one would be better - I don't think the extra size would be a problem

So can someone give me the pros/cons of one over the other? Thanks

Well, for one thing the first factor you have to decide between 16gb or 32gb. Secondly, the 4th gen iPod touch will have a front facing camera while the iPhone 3GS will not (a big factor if you want to use it for FaceTime). Third, the 3GS has a screen resolution of 480x320 while the 4th gen iPod touch has a 960x640 retina screen. Off the top of my head, those are the three major differences between the two. It'll be a matter of deciding which of those are more important for your uses.

Thanks man, I didn't catch that the 3Gs didnt have a front facing camera.. that's a deal breaker - I was just considering it since 16GB would be enough and I've seen 16GB 3Gs for less than a 32GB iPod touch..
