Has anyone else noticed that a problem whereby photos in your collection (using directories of photos, not iPhoto libraries) aren't loaded into your iPod Touch if they have certain naming conventions to them?

Noticeably, lately, if I load photos whereby I might have:

Image0002.jpg
Image0002a.jpg
Image0002b.jpg
Image0003.jpg

Images 2a and 2b will NOT appear on my iPod Touch. iTunes shows 186 photos in one of my directories (that is the correct number), but I don't get 186 photos on my iPod Touch because it doesn't load the 'a', 'b' ones onto it. I have those naming coventions in the first place because I missed some photos in my real photo albums while scanning them the first time around and so I went back and added them, but wanted them in the same order as my real photo albums and so the only way to preserve that order was to 'slot them in' with the alphabet designators. It always worked in the past, but after my last sync, it deleted all the a/b ones. Starting over did not fix the problem.

I've also had problems before with vertical photos whereby iTunes ignored the EXIF data and put them on my iPod Touch side-ways. I got so sick of this that I stopped tagging my photos on my Canon camera and just manually rotated them so they'd appear correct everywhere so I haven't tested the latest iTunes versions to see if they ever fixed it or not. I don't think AppleTV had any problems with the EXIF data, but then it's passed the full resolution original photos whereas iTunes creates smaller resolution ones to put on the iPod Touch and that's probably where the problem lies.
