So I downloaded the new iTunes and assumed that it would allow my iPod to have gapless playback with a software update. Turns out that I haven't gotten it. Do I need to buy a new iPod to get this? If not, why won't my iTunes update my software anything higher than 1.2.1?

iPod Photo was 4th generation. Apple only updated 5th generation units to gapless.

Really? Dang, well thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it!

I as well am bummed to hear this. The only thing I'd like on my iPod Photo, besides what it has, is gapless playback. I don't need better battery life, video playback, a brighter screen, or a slimmer form, just gapless playback. Guess I'll wait for the pre-Christmas model and upgrade then.
