iPod Ipod Playlist question

Hi,

Is there a way to make a playlist of the music on your ipod and transfer that playlist into itunes? I need to do this so that when I restore my Ipod I won't have to go through my music and choose what I want on my Ipod.

I know iTunes will do this if you're auto-updating and you fill it up, but I've never had to do it in any other situation, so honestly I'm not sure.
