I just became the last person in my family to get an iPod. My parents and my younger sister got tired of lending me theirs and they just told me to get one for myself. So I got the 20gb one at the Apple Store in Tokyo. It was really a great buying experience, and the staff were so nice that I felt like I was buying something costing millions of bucks (or trillions of yen).

I have several questions:

1. What's the best way so to maintain the life of the battery as long as possible. Do iPods suffer from major memory effects on their batteries?

2. I'll be using this as an external hard drive as well. Should I be defragmenting the disk as I do on my notebook computer?

3. I bought Belkin's external battery for the iPod because I fly on international flights every few months. Are there any other iPod accessories that you recommend?

Thanks for your advice.
