#1 - I have my 4g 20 gb iPod on a dock. Every once in awhile, it will make a beeping type noise (has kind of a tune to it). It doesn't last long, maybe 2 - 3 seconds. Does anyone know why it does this?

#2 - Is there a way to shuffle within a subdirectory? i.e. I'm in artists ---> artist 1 ....and I want to randomly go thru the songs in there.

Thanks!

Just pick "all" on the albums screen (it's the top option) and then pick a song. It will shuffle all the songs that you have on your iPod by that artist.

Actually, I'm not sure that answer makes any sense (no offense).

To shuffle through songs by artist (which I think is what Natalia is asking), simply turn on Shuffle. The listed order of the songs won't change, but the playing order will.
