iPod touch iPod says its connected but it still does nothing.

I was using my wifi for my iPod. It was working just fine, then my app crashes (ive had the app for a while), and my wifi bars vanish. I reset the router. and the bars came back. But the wifi still won't work on it. Wifi works fine on the laptop, but not the iPod.
so, I restarted my ipod...nothing.. I reset my ipod... nothing... I don't want to restore my iPod, but I will if that makes it work.

My 2nd Generation ipod Touch was showing connected but was really slow, basically doing nothing. Trying to figure out the problem, I found out the date was off by about 30 years. Synching wouldn't fix date or time. Reset the time and date manually and the internet started working again.
