iPod iPod short?

my 5.5G 30GB iPod Video was charging when i ejected it. i waited for a bit and then i started to smell something in the room. i didnt know what it was for a bit so i kept going on my computer.

then i took my ipod off and then screen was frozen
it turned off
then i smelled the same smell i had smelled earlier on the iPod.

was this a short or what?
its still under warranty so could i just go to the Apple store and get a new/refurbished one?

any help would be great thanks.

Your description sounds like the "burning" smell came from the iPod. Without a doubt I would take it to the apple store and get another one. They will do one of three things:

1) Send it in for repair or at least to be looked at.
2) On the spot, give you a refurb 5th generation.
3) If it's your lucky day, give you a new 6th generation! (I highly doubt it...)
