iPod iPod Shuffle (1st gen) volume problem...

Hey,

I just got an iPod Shuffle (1st gen) and everytime I turn it off and back on, the volume defaults to this preset volume which is softer than what I set it at. So everytime I have to raise the volume when I want to use it which gets annoying. Is there a way around this?
