I have an iPod shuffle 3rd gen 4gb, the nice stainless steel one that I bought on a whim. It's so damn cute, I had to have one. I've barely used it - in fact, it's been laying in a cupboard for maybe a year or two.

Having done a clearout, I came across it and, of course, now I want to use it, but it's not responding. I've gone through the apple troubleshooting guide to no avail. I've tried different cables just in case, but still nothing. It doesn't show up in iTunes.

Any idea if this can be repaired, or if there's anything I can try to get it working?

Dead battery, if you store it for that long(Or lost it) even a Lithium Ion battery wouldn't hold a charge that long.
Try to charge it for a couple of hours before , otherwise it is dead.
