ipod shuffle and imac G3 problems!

Just bought my ipod shuffle and it doesn't work(iMac G3 600mhz 10.3.7). iTunes doesn't recognize it... nothing happens. Help????

Do you have the latest version of iTunes (4.7.1)? Does the Shuffle sit completely in the USB port? I’ve heard of Macs where the USB ports aren’t accessible enough. Which USB port do you use BTW?

the only way to use a shuffle with an imac g3 is to use a usb hub of some sort. i have tested this on a friend's machine, and it LOOKS like the shuffle fis in, but in all actuality it doesn't. a ten dollar usb hub from any vendor solves this problem (be sure to buy a powered one) or you could wait for apple to release the shuffle dock and actually ship it, but who wants to do that?!
