iPod ipod shuffle; erase and sync pop up annoyance

i have a old shuffle (1g) and use it regularly as a storage drive. everytime i plug it into a computer, the pop up for 'do you want to erase and sync with this computer' comes up. is there a way to stop this?
i hate to accidentally click yes next time this keeps popping up.

remove auto-sync... At least i think that is the solution...

Think iTunes hates shuffles and you have to auto-sync once you plug in which is trouble-some...
