I took a quick pic of it...

Seems pretty interesting to me.

Just do it with a compass, the way we would have done back in our day at school.
Ah yes... unfortunately that method would mean that the LeTtERs mIgHT NoT bE QUiTe s0 bEaUTifUL, no?

Good idea for shuffles since shuffles hardly get resold and it's cheap insurance against people stealing it and claiming it's theirs.

my thoughts exactly. i know that i wont be getting rid of my shuffle any time soon at all

Oooh, that is nice. I never thought about that the Shuffles coudn't get engravings but it is nice to know that they can now. My 3G iPod is engraved to if I ever get a Shuffle I might go that rout as well.

I've owned every iPod since the first gen, and I always come back to the fact that the Shuffle is my favorite (flash, compatibility with all computers, and tons of memory for tunes and files). At times, I like it even better than my Nano, which is little more than a Shuffle with a built-in scratch magnet and screen.

Since engraving wasn't possible when I bought mine a few months ago, I resorted to dropping a readme text file onto it with my contact info if it was lost. I wish there was a way to send it and get it engraved with my name or phone # now....

Actualy you can get after market engravings, just not through Apple. There are places like jewlery shops and I think trophy shops that will do it. Call around in your area.

Smart. Incidentally, I'm from your area originally (Urbana) but now in Texas.

Since the Shuffle's case is white, I wonder what color the engraving appears. It would be nice to get custom color lettering.

Well, nothing to add about the engraving...just wanted to add that I currently live in Champaign :)

Thats crazy, I wonder if we have ever met  . If you are affiliated with the UofI there is a good chance of it.

I grew up in Urbana and went to high school there, but didn't go to the U of I. All my friends did. I came to Texas for college. I'm about due for a trip home.

Shouldn't that read "built in scratch magnet and self cracking screen".

Although I guess if the engraving read your postcode, in the UK, then theft would be easier to detect.

I would have but my name on there if i could at the time of purchasing my shuffle.

Me too. But as mentioned by a previous poster, its likely you can have your shuffle engraved by a jeweler for a nominal fee.

a jeweler might not, the shuffle is a plastic, the rest of the iPods have the metal backing, making engravings easy, but a different process or finely tuned process might have to be used for some material like the shuffle, possibly why it took to long to become available for the shuffle. but i could be wrong, and it never hurts to ask.
