iPod ipod switch from PC to Mac HELP!!!!

Hi,
I'm trying to switch my ipod nano from a PC format to a mac format, but i'm hitting problems.

(The format change will be perminant)

It works fine on the PC and 'disk use' is enabled and works.
When plugged into my mac (OS 10.3.9) it fails to be picked up. The system profiler CAN see it and says its windows formated but itunes, desktop and ipod updater fail to find it.

I've done a successful reset by holding the menu and middle button but to no avail.

so how the hell do i reformat it if my mac can see it???!!!!

does the PC have to reformat it?

pc formatted ipods should work fine on macs, all ipods come pc formatted now, though you can format to mac very easily, take a look at apple.com

apple.com doesnt help, they reckon ipod updater will see it, but i'm not getting that result this exact problem happend with another nano a year ago.
does anyone know of a program that can reformat external usb devices?

(windows usb jump drives, flash memory key rings are seen and work fine by my mac, just not windows Nanos!)

it doesnt read it unless its in the back of the mac!

Here we go, another example of "House syndrome" in "Help" threads.

All we needed to know was one little bit of information and all would be solved. You neglected to tell us you were trying to plug the nano into an un-powered USB 1.1 port. That tiny bit of information would've solved your problem immediately. Glad it's all sorted out now though.
