Is it responisve at all? Can you describe the condition it is in now? You can try to put it in DFU and try a restore in itunes. Happened to me yesterday while trying to JB my 2g touch. It was unresponsive to any button presses and looked like I bricked it. I tried to put it in DFU mode while connected to itunes and it found it right away. Did a restore and works like before.

I turn on the ipod, it displays the apple logo for a few seconds, and then it disappears.

put it in DFU mode and restore. to put it in DFU mode hold down the sleep/wake button and home button for 10 seconds while it's showing the apple logo. after the 10 seconds then release the sleep/wake button but continue to hold the home button for 30 seconds (it may not take 30 seconds but hold it for 30 seconds to be on the safe side). it's easier to do this will connected because once it's in DFU mode your computer will tell you (well i know windows does at least). once it's in DFU mode go to iTunes and it will say you have to restore. now restore.
