iPod touch iPod Touch 1G broken-should I go to 2G?

I have a first gen ipod touch. I love it dearly. But, now it is broken, how sad =[. The battery just doesn't work, it only charges half way, and then it gets drained within a half hour to an hour.

My Question: Should I buy a new battery, $85 and get it repaired, from apple. Or, should I just pay 220-300 for a new touch?
