Just got a 2g iPod Touch 32GB (a swap for my defective 1G) and, for the most part, I am pleased with the improvements (audio quality, added speaker and volume knobs, faster syncing, improved image quality and slimmer profile), but there are 2 very serious issues:

1) The unit does not appear to charge with anything other than the Dock connector to USB cables that I have (when connected to a Mac or PC's USB port). It will not charge on my JBL speaker/dock, it will not charge on my dock connector to AC plug (non apple manufactured), and it will not charge using my Monster car cigarette adapter charger, all of which worked flawlessly on my 1g iPod Touch. I get unsupported charging device errors on the screen (or something along those lines). This is a big deal, especially for my JBL speakers, since I use it when I go to sleep and sometimes use AOL radio or similar streaming app and by morning, my batteries are a bit depleted and since I can’t charge it in the car any longer on the drive in to work, I am at a disadvantage due to this issue. .

>>>>>>>>What I am curious about is if this is a software issue that might be resolved in an upcoming update, or a hardware issue that will always be an issue with this device.

2) There appears to be a problem with connecting via WiFi, not the WEP issue described by many on various forums, but an issue where I will see my network, can connect to it, but even when connected, there are no connected icon on the upper left corner of the screen and when I touch the blue arrow next to the connected network, I don’t appear to have an IP address. Renewing does not help. The only way to connect is to repeatedly turn off WiFi and then turn it back on and eventually it will connect. This seems to happen 1 in every 3 times I try to connect. Once I am connected, I do not lose connection, and the performance appears to be considerably faster than my 2G.

>>>>>>>I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue and also if there is any word out there that it is hardware of software related.

Interested also to know if I am the only person experiencing the second issue, or if it is widespread before I swap out my iPod for a new one (for the 3rd time)

(Sorry if this has been posted here before)

Your first problem is due to Apple changing the charging voltage for the touch and iphone 3g. There won't be an update to fix this because Apple purposefully did this. The only solution is to buy new accessories or buying one of the adapters that a few companies have said they'd be coming out with.

I believe your second problem is a software glitch as I've heard numerous others have the same problem. For now the only solution is to keep doing what you're doing, and hope for an update from Apple.

1) I figured as much. People really get on Microsoft for being so proprietary, but I gotta say, Apple is really the king of forcing people to buy their overpriced products and accessories to take full advantage of their functionality. A shame really, the iPod Touch being such a great product and all.

2) That's what I thought, anyone else with the same issue, feel free to chime in, really hoping for a fix soon, kind of a pain.

>>>>>>>>>>BTW, anyone notice how much faster 2G syncs than 1G? Like night and day IMO, but maybe my 1Gs were defective? The reason I swapped 2x in the first place, amongst other issues..
