iPod touch iPod touch 2g stuck in recovery mode

Hi!
My iPod touch is stuck in recovery mode (displays the connect to iTunes). When I connect the iPod touch to a windows 7 system, I get an USB error. The computer doesn't recognize the touch. I get a similar error when I connect to a Mac. I've tried using irecovery, to force the touch into either dfu mode or normal, to no avail. Any thoughts????
