Hello, guys.
I would really appreciate if somebody can help me.

I have iPod touch 2g, which was jailbroken with redsn0w long ago (while it had firmware 3...). Recently I decided to upgrade to iOS 4. I waited till the redsn0w appeared for the devices like mine, downloaded it and...
To use redsn0w for iOS 4 I had to upgrade to that iOS 4, which I did (maybe that was my mistake) using iTunes.

Now to the problem itself. For successful jailbreaking I need to have my iPod touch turned off while attached to a laptop. However, it seems impossible for me, because I can not turn it OFF when it is plugged in. I thought that maybe there is a problem with a turn off button, however I can easily turn the device off while UNplugged. But as soon as I plug it in it turns on.

I browsed web and the forum, but no results, except the threads for the opposite problem (iPod wont turn off).

Please, help, if you know how to deal with that.

Thanks a lot

In this exact order:

  1. Plug the iPod in
  2. Hold the power button until "Slide to Power Off" appears on screen.
  3. Slide the lock bar.
  4. Proceed with jailbreaking as normal.

Thanks, Mr Slippy IV
I tried it exactly as you said. It ends up being in a safe mode, instead of DFU

Turn off the ipod then connect it to the laptop and start the jailbreak :)

Then the iPod will turn back on when you connect to the computer, right? I'm not familiar with the current redsn0w jailbreak, so I'm not sure if turning it on by connecting to the computer Is part of the jb processs?

Correct. He gave the reverse order of what you're supposed to do.
