Hi, I have an iPod touch 2G that my parents got me for Christmas. And a month later my friend purchased one I noticed the difference in the screens. Mine had a yellow tint to it. So my question is. Should i return this to get a new one or will apple not give me a new one. And if you had this problem did apple give you a new one?

Thanks,
-Vital

there was a batch of iphones(or ipod touches) early on that had defective screens(with the yellow tint) if you contact apple they'll most likely replace it for free

It's not really a problem. The 1st generation 32GB touch had a noticeably yellower screen than the 8 and 16GB models, and the 2nd generation has an even yellower screen than the previous generation (not noticeable on it's own, but very obvious when placed side-by-side with a 1st gen). Apparently the same can be said when comparing the original iPhone to the iPhone 3G, although I cannot personally verify this.
I have seen posts where people say it was a decision by Apple as having a yellow tint makes the colours more vibrant, or something along those lines.

I compared the picture quality of colors with my friends ipod touch and his looks better mine looks more damp. Colors on his screen pops up more then mine. Hopefully they'll give me a new one. My ipod also has stuck pixels as soon as a opened the box so they better give me a new ipod. lol:D

aside from that yellow tint - my ipod touch 2nd gen also has some stain of yellowish (or whitish) light on the upper and lower edge part of the screen. they started to appear last february and they are slowly eating the screen. pretty annoying

They won't give you a brand stink'in new one. They will give you a refurbished. Refurbished ones have a new battery and new outer shell. It will look brand new and feel brand new.

Just to bump this:

I've just received a replacement 2nd gen iPod touch as my first one's home button stopped working. The replacement has a noticably warmer/yellowish screen while the original was cooler/bluer. There is no yellow gradient or anything, the screen appears uniformly yellowish.

I see a lot of threads in the iPhone forum about yellow/warm screens - is it actually a fault with a batch of screens, or is this just luck of the draw? If I send it back to Apple for yet another replacement, what are the chances a replacement will come back with the same issue?

2Gs have a yellowish tint, it's not just a bad batch. I purchased two of them, one around the time it was first released and once last summer for the BTS promo. Both had a yellowish tint on the screen.

The 3G doesn't have that at all. It's perfect.
