This is a funny thing: create a app folder, (then come back to home screen, open the folder)*, now look closer, dont u see a wallpaper on that "pop down" of the folder? But wait, jobs replyed gizmodo (why 2nd gen ipod and iphone 2g dont have home background), saying this: "The icon animation with backgrounds didn't perform well enough."
Aha, u forgot the folder wallpaper..... better think in another excuse.

So, it really cant deal with animations and wallpaper stuff, this device is too weak, right Mr. Jobs?

gizmodo link: http://gizmodo.com/5569276/why-iphone-3g-users-didnt-get-backgrounds-with-ios-4

* -> the wallpaper is also present while editing icons WITH ANIMATION, so, the jobs excuse turns out to be just bulls*it

i dont think that background is one picture, its like a tiny picture that repeats itself just like in some websites etc

those icons dont move around when you swipe your finger, like when swiping to get to different pages of icons. it seems processor is not fast enough to redraw the icons on top of a background as they animate across the screen when you swipe left and right.

or the code is inefficient and needs to be streamlined.

What? Sorry didnt mean to do that, this is my real post.

whatever it is, background, wallpper or texture, we should be able to set the background! :D
This is just one way thay say us: "Ok, your device is a crap, buy a new one and make jobs poop money"

I jailbroke my iPod touch 2nd-generation to try out home screen wallpapers. There was certainly a lag when opening and closing applications with it enabled, so that is why it was not included.

However, something doesn't make sense. How come, if using WinterBoard, you can get a background with no performance different, but using Apple's method, there is a performance drop?

Hopefully the performance isnt sucky with the 4G ipod touch. Plus the 4G will probably be shipped with iOS4 pre-installed.
