Your selling it because of a rumor? What happens when the rumor's wrong?

well, history is on my side. apple has updated the ipod line in september for the last 2 years, in time for the holidays.

wouldnt be suprised if 32Gb goes for 299. 16GB for 199. Introduce 64GB for maybe 399 or 499. (not sure how much 64GB goes for these days). Wouldnt be suprised if it contains camera/speakers. Besides that...not much new...

And you're right, there is strong reason to believe that it will be updated. But why not wait an extra month to be sure?

Uh... there haven't really been any rumors of a new one, unless you consider people on forums saying "zomg when can i buy t3h new IPOD touch kthxbai" to be solid evidence of something new. A memory bump is out of the question right now due to price, a camera doesn't make any sense, and speakers are the idea of people that haven't thought it through. Expect a price drop (16gb at 299, 32 at 399) and maybe a different casing with tactile control buttons. Possibly GPS, but that's pretty unlikely due to the need of wifi for maps.

I wouldn't expect anything more than a price drop, as mentioned by akonradi. Like I said: don't sell based on rumors and speculation. I'm not even holding out for tactile buttons.

That seems about right.... that's US and not CAD right?

It is. For that price, it should be have 128 (or even 256)GB. I wouldn't expect more than a price drop and cosmetic do-over similar to the new iPhones.

You must be smokin' something really ***** strong...

Hopefully your joking.

Nothing is impossible, except 32GB touch for $ 299. Are you kidding me, man.

Ppl say there's high possibility Apple will discontinue the 8GB model and sell the 16GB one for $299. I think not, as the touch is pretty hot right now i think they might keep the price as is for a little longer. In other word, nothing will change in price rank. Amen.

It's not a rumor at where it's more of a fact that the Touch will get something new.
They normally don't update the iPods without adding in new feature other than capacity.

I think you may be greatly right.
I have a strong feeling that they may have the 32GB for $299 and the 16GB for 199.
I'm not just saying this because I want it to happen, it is mentioned in this article:

Expect this to happen.
Not now, but sometime in the near future, say... 128GB in fall 2009.

I challenge (erm... triple dog dare) you to find me the flash components to get to those capacities at the 500 usd price point.

He was just saying sometime in the future.
The will happen, eventually.

16gb at $18.71 US dollars, times 8 = $149.68 for 128gb. Yes, it's SD, but proves that 128gb flash memory can be had for an affordable price, and surely cheaper if you're Apple buying huge quantities.

The 8gb Touch = $299, and 16g Touch = $399 at the moment. Just assume a 0gb Touch would be $199 and still have profit in it. Add $150 for the 128gb RAM to get to $349. Add another $50 profit for Apple to be at $399 for a $128gb iPod Touch.

Flash Memory has dropped in price considerably, and will continue to drop. That has been true since they first invented it. I'm not sure why anyone needs 128gb, as they only put 64gb in the MacBook Air. I'll predict a 64GB Touch for less than $400 though, and Apple won't be losing money on it.

lol did you just completely disregard the fact that you have to fit these chips in the ipod somehow? as i understand now, the ipod touch only has room for 2 chips with current design, definitly not 8 chips that add to 128gigs lol

No disregarding needed. I've lived long enough to know that everything else got smaller and consolidated over time. I have no doubt Apple could stick 64gb into a new Touch using whatever form of chips is most economical. You have to realize that over the same time memory prices fall the space they take up also decreases. The SD package is mostly shell. You can get the same capacity in a microSD card, and it is mostly shell too.

Personally I would like to see a built-in camera as well, but my guess is that it won't be likely. My speculation for the next update are lower prices and new shell design (maybe two color choices). I'm basing my speculation on the history of the Nanos and shuffle, since those two, and the Touch, are flash based.

I would personally just like to see 64gb for $499 and that would be good enough for me!

8 GB: $249
16 GB: $299
32 GB: $399
64 GB (early 2009): $499

Nobody is saying there won't be a 64/128 GB iPod touch. The point is that there most likely won't be one in 2008 given current touch prices, flash memory capacities, and the fact that the touch can only store two flash memory chips.

Sorry, that's not how flash memory works. And the link that you gave doesn't show anything... Anywhere else, getting a 16gb sd card for under $50 even is rare and the quality wouldn't be all that great. And you obviously don't realize how big their revenues are on these. Even if you subtract manufacturing costs, there's still more to be paid for, you know? And they still have to make profit, so don't think that 400 retail - 350 parts cost will bring on 50 of profit. Costs to produce a product go way beyond purchasing the parts.

I can pretty much guarantee you that you won't see a 64gb iPod touch until you see a 32gb iPhone.
