I was hoping to start iOS development when I buy a MacBook Pro this summer... Thanks, Alex.

Ok cheers, and people with 4.3 and higher will be able to still use these apps? And will I have trouble with Apple accepting my app to the app store?

Unless your App is using 4.x only features, you should likely target your builds to 3.x anyways so that first gen iPhone users can run your app. Regardless, you don't need a physical device to create or submit an App, you can do all of that with the simulator.
