its on 3.1.3 and I tried putting it on 4.3.3 today but it said that the firmware wasnt compatible. So I went on iTunes and it said that it can be upgraded to 4.2. (not 4.2.1). I already have some experience with jailbreaking but I cant find a way to jailbreak 4.2 on my ipod touch 3g. help?

Have you made sure iTunes is updated to the current version? Also could you go to Settings > General > About then post what model number your iPod is as well as how many gb's it is total

I have a feeling that you have an iPod Touch 2G MC or MB model. If you cannot put iOS 4.3.3, then that means you do not have an iPod Touch 3G.
