Well there is one thread (https://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...86#post8423286) going around saying that the ipod touch 3G will be called the ipod touch "P" which stands for "POWER":D:D:D

http://www.touchmyapps.com/2009/09/...touch-“p”-to-be-introduced-at-sept-9th-event/

Do you think apple would add a code name to the ipod touch like the iphone 3G S which we all know the "S" stands for "SPEED"?

Will it increase sales? ($$$$)

What imaginary letter would you put? (use your imagination)

Opinions?

There is also another thread on MR that shows the letter that was supposedly from Jobs (would Steve Jobs really talk like that in an email?)

Most likely, the iPod Touch 3g will not be called the "P" and the letter is all a joke, but I think it would make sense for Apple to name it that. Also, I'm pretty sure that the next generation iPod Touch would not have 18 hours of battery life. There is lots of proof on the web that it will in fact have a camera.

most likely that is the one i am talking about.:D

but anyways, yeah, i don't think apple would put a code name to the ipod touch.:D

and 18 hours!!!!!!! wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would love to see a macbook with 18hrs! lol

however i would not mind a letter! even if it stands for POWER or SPEED!

iPod Touch S doesn't sound sound right if you say it out loud compared to iPhone 3GS. I think it would get confused with iPod Touch's. Maybe Apple could call it the iPod Touch SPN (Speed, Power, 802.11n- faster WiFi) :D

lol, not a bad idea..:D

i would probably call it iPod Touch "CV" for camera/video.:p

There's no need for it to have an additional suffix, because there is no need to differentiate the models unlike the iPhone. The only time it will be listed as anything other than simply "iPod touch" is in support documents and compatibility lists (where it will be listed as "iPod touch (3rd generation)").

although i agree with your statement...

just ask yourself the question,

when somebody tells you "i have an ipod touch."

you will probably ask "which one?"

(this is where i think we should have code names, but this is just my opinion.)

It's very easy to identify different iPod models and generations. In the case of the iPod touch:

1G - Flat back/black matte rim, no camera/mic, no external volume controls
2G - Curved back/chome rim, no camera/mic
3G - Camera/mic

I would call it an iPod touch B for "B*tches!"

I prefer, however, to be able to pronounce the word easily.

The iPod Touch will not have anything added to the name.

The "Touch" describes the model of iPod product line. Likewise, the iPhone is a product line in itself, so the "3G" and "3Gs" describe the model.

Wish people would realise that Apple don't label their iPods with generations (unless in retrospect)

iPod Touch 3G will be enough to distinguish it from iPod Touch 2G. But, since '3G' was already used with iPhone, Steve Jobs wouldn't want to call it that.

iPod Touch SP maybe?

A souped up Touch ought to drop "touch" alogether. How about the new iPod Sizzle? There would be system sound it would make when you touch it like a drop of water on a hot plate. :D
