Okay...

ipod-touch-3g-2.jpg

IN NO WAY AM I SAYING THAT PICTURE IS REAL. I AM ONLY USING IT FOR COMPARISON PURPOSES.

That being said: My first gen iPod touch looks MUCH worse than that. (Tried that rough end of a scotch-brite sponge once... I have to admit it was beautiful for all of one day. Then it all went to hell.)

So I plan on not opening my iPod touch 3rd gen until I can get a good case for it.

Anyone know, based on the past experiences with cases, how long it will take for noteworthy companies like Griffin, Speck (I'm rooting for that one...) and the like?

Any answers appreciated.

They come out almost the same time as the new ipods and touches do. When you buy the itouch some outfit will have a case available even if it isn't one of the better ones or one you prefer. I usually leave the film on the outside until I can get some type of case whether it is an older case that held something similar in size or I jerry rig something.

like a few weeks for the super legit companies like griffin, speck, incase. But some lesser known companies or generic 3rd party ebay companies sometimes have cases before new iPods even come out. But I am going to stick with a decent 2nd gen case until I can get a 3rd gen case.

do you seriously think apple would be so rude as to not redesign the thing

that's a fake, the new one will look different. Possibly expect a plastic back to cut costs.

Thanks, I knew that was gonna happen :\

Anyway, thanks for the input guys. Any cheapy ones anyone suggests (that would likely be out upon release) you would recommend till Speck releases one?

Also, would it still be recommendable to keep the plastic wrapping on the ipod while in said cheapy case? i dont want any "contact-rubbing" scratches either...

I ordered my ipod touch 3g case and its almost a pefect fit for the ipod touch 2g but theres a camera hole and mic hole

Most likely the 3g Touch will be the same size and shape as the 2g so you can buy a cheap silicone case for a 2g touch on ebay for a $1 or 2 and use that for a few weeks until better ones come out. Note it would cover the camera hole but you could always but a new one.
