My iPod touch, 3rd gen, will not do a thing. One day I plugged it into iTunes, it seems like it sparked or shorted out and now it won't do a thing. I have tried to restore, DFU, everything - and iTunes won't recognize it. I called apple and they said that they won't simply replace it but just see what was wrong with it and charge my account. I have taken the back plate off so I am guessing that would void anything that they would have done for me? Anyone have any ideas? The nearest apple store is approx. 5 hours from me so that isn't exactly an option either.

edit: Furthermore, I notice that when I do plug it in, i hear it making noise. Now, I am not sure if that is the harddrive or what it is? Does flash memory even make noise?
