My wifi signal is 2 bars when browsing the net on my ipod touch 4 in portrait mode. However if I put it into landscape mode, it drops to 1 bar. Is it normal?

The router is on the 2nd floor and im In the ground floor. :)

It may have something to do with the way you hold it. The wifi antennas on iPods and any mobile phones are a good bit weaker than on a computer as well. But if you're still getting signal, I wouldn't worry about it.

So its fine? I did try covering the top of my ipod and the wifi bar went down by 1. I removed my hand, wifi bar went up. Is it suppose to be like that?

Your holding it the wrong way.

just kidding. Do you have a thick case by any chance sometimes they interfere also if nothing helps you can try to see if a wifi booster antenna works. On the router.

Actually he is "holding it the wrong way." That is where the antenna is.

Covering the antenna on mine doesn't drop it that much but I dont live in a big house. How old is your iPod I hear that the range of the a tenna decreases overtime

Hopefully the router is Wireless N. If the router is Wireless N, then range and speed should not be a problem.

As well, unlike the iPhone, I notice that if you hold the iPod Touch in certain positions, the WiFi Signal is subject to degrade in bars. Then again, try holding the iPod Touch the way you usually do near the room where the router is. IF the signal still degrades, then the theory works.

IF not, then the iPod Touch is obviously passing through thick walls to get the WiFi signal in the ground floor from the second floor.
