i currently have a jailbroken ipod touch 4g with firmware 4.2.1, and i know ios 5.1 has been released but there is no unteathered jailbreak so i was wondering if there was a way i could update to ios 5.0.1 instead and jailbreak that, because i want 5.x but i dont want to have to wait for a new jailbreak. also i was wondering if there was a way i could carry over all my jailbreak apps so i dont have to go through the hassle of writing them down and re installing them etc. i understand there may not be a way to carry over apps from installous but itd be nice to at least preserve the apps from cydia

Hi dude, so:

1. To save your Cydia apps/tweaks, just download OpenBackup in Cydia. Open it and touch the Backup button.

2. Your Installous apps will sync with iTunes if you have AppSync for iOS 4.X. (Download AppSync for iOS 5.X after your iPod has restored to iOS 5.0.1)

3. Yes you can update to iOS 5.0.1 instead of iOS 5.1. Just download iOS 5.0.1 for a 4G iPod touch (http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/041-3313.20111109.Azxe3/iPod4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw). Open iTunes. Click the Restore button WHILE HOLDING THE SHIFT KEY (don't forget to do a backup before). The select the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file you just downloaded.

When you will be jailbroken, redownload OpenBackup in Cydia and touch the Restore button.
