Hello,
I had my ipod touch 4g in drawer for almost two years because I thought it is not working. It wasn´t responding to anything, I couldn´t put it recovery mode, so I thought it is completely broken. Today I just tried to plug in and it worked, but it looks like on the attached photo. What is with it? Do I need to replace the display only and it will work?
Thanks.

Looks to me like it's just the LCD/Front panel assembly (single part). You can see the iPod text in the upper right so it appears to be booted up and functioning.

You can replace it yourself for $40 or less depending on where you get the part. But it's not that easy. I've done a few myself but it can be tricky getting the digitizer cable back on the underside of the logic board. Easier with a second set of hands and some small tweezers.
