Hi there,
I am currently quite disappointed about my new Ipod Touch 4G. Just got it a little less than one month ago. From the beginning on I was wondering why plugging in the USB connector was such a hard thing to achieve, it just seemed not to go in as "smooth" as on previous Ipods.
So yesterday I discovered that the 30 Pin connector on the cable was indeed bent in a bit on one side. However, in a way as you would just notice it only by looking very closely to it.
Checking the male connector on the Ipod revealed that a tiny plastic edge had come off and two pins were clearly visible to lay naked.
I quickly reacted and sent it back to amazon, since the apple warranty somehow states, that "cosmetic flaws" on plastic parts which are part of any kind of connector to the device are no subject for repair, as long as the device functions properly. Well, what a stupid idea. It would just be a matter of time until those two pins bend back 90° and then break off when you try doing it the other way round. Happily enough the first Pin is also the GND Pin to the device used for charging, so you would end up with an IPod that's become unchargeable.
Now I'm quite anxious about the guys at amazon. I didn't drop the damn thing, or else. Hell, I didn't even listen to music with it yet and it was maybe like 2 or 3 times I plugged it to charge yet!
The problem in this case is clearly a lack of proper tolerances during the production process and probably the fact that the male connector on the Ipod/Iphone is clearly to thin to withstand any kind of mechanical event. Compared to other standard connectors on cell phones it seems rediciolously weak.
By the way any 1 knows whether the USB cables are produced by a different manufacturer than the actual device?
