iPod touch ipod touch 4th gen volume :S

so ive had my ipod touch 4 since october and my ipod dock since about julyish anyways last week i was playing my music and i took the headphones out and it was playing through the speakers normally but then i put it in my dock and it still played through the ipod speakers but was charging and the icon saying it was charging was up

then i took it out and all of a sudden the volume control went so it says its playing but the only way you can hear anything is with the headphones until you wait about 5 minute or turn it off and turn it back on

so does anybody know how to make the ipod play normally in the dock and show volume controls after using it
