They're going down in price everywhere, since an updated version is coming in september.
Besides, with Apples back-to-school promo, Amazon is probably losing sales.

I understand but there is something weird about pricing of the 64GB.

This is not the case for 32GB version.

32GB sells for $264 at Amazon.

Apple sells it for $299.

Amazon and other online merchants usually drop their prices on iPod's this time of year since in September they're coming out with new iPods

That's why I asked. It does not make any sense. I thought someone could give a valid reason other than new ones are coming soon.
I dont think there is a reason other than they are being ridiculous.

Apple doesn't drop it's prices because that signals that a product that it makes may be refreshed. The others don't make the product, they just sell it - so it is in their interest to have little or zero of that product left if they think that Apple will come out with something new.

Amazon discounting it $30 for the next two months gets rid of iPods. When Apple releases a new model and the old ones are slashed $100, that is harder for resellers to get rid of them.

Hmmmmm.... I guess that makes sense... sorta.

Apple would rather give away ipods than drop below msrp. I dunno. They are showing record earnings so whoever has been crunching the numbers have been doing a great job (since this is like the 4th time they've done this back to school thing)
