Do you think Apple should release a 7th gen iPod? Or should they keep improving the iPhone line-up? If you think they should keep upgrading the iPod, what do you want in the latest releases? Personally, I'd like the Face ID, but Apple said they most likely aren't bringing it to iPod any time in the near future.

I personally like the iPod Touch because I'm not a fan of smartphones.

For calling and texting, I can get by with a $50 phone that does exactly that without any useless frills. It also has a great battery (2-3 weeks on full charge) so I don't need to worry about charging it. Apart from that, it could be used as a reliable alarm clock without the worry of the battry potentially running out during the night.

When I'm outside, I like having my iPod Touch to use as a PDA, a PDA that I don't need to worry about too much. iPod Touches are cheaper and don't have the extra phone gibbons that I don't require. To add to that, I don't need to worry if my iPod isn't working or if the battery's bust because I don't need it for any critical purpose.

Perhaps my odd set up is what makes me want a decent iPod Touch since I'm not keen on the idea of spending lots of money on an iPhone/Android smartphone to use as an iPod Touch

As for specs for a new one, I'd be pleased with
  • A10/11 with preferably 3GB RAM
  • 64GB base model but 32GB wouldn't be the end of the world
  • Same screen and factor as 6th gen iPod
  • Touch ID would be nice but I'm not bought on Face ID myself
With those specs for a decent price ($200-300 base model), I'd probably get one when my iPod 5 can no longer serve its purpose.

True. I'd get one now, as my Touch 4 is "unable" to handle anything past iOS 7 (obsolete only 2 years after its release), but I don't have the money (just bought a bunch of computer crap).

Depending on what you do, you can still get some use out of it. There's a fix for FB Messenger and Twitter, YouTube and quite a few other apps work just fine

How do you get it? I'd like that! I'm running old versions of every app I have, including FB Messenger and YouTube.

This is an old thread but this is a music player.... how about a "let's upgrade the sound playback capabilities to use 96kHz audio in a lossy format?" Something that Android has been able to do for a long time. If you say, "there's no codec that can do that...." WMA Pro 10 can and has been around a long time. Partially developed by Dolby too. I would assume M4A has something similar. I mean... 44kHz/16bit audio was state of the art in 1982. Here we are almost 40 years later and no one seems to want to really advance audio out of SD mode.

How did Neil Young’s uber audio quality Pono player and and it’s high priced music download store do. RIP 2017.

  1. Face ID, due to increased want.
  2. More RAM, everybody needs that.
  3. Better camera, because reasons.
  4. Duh, a better battery life!!!
  5. MUCH better processor, just to increase the speediness.
For me, I'd use an IpT7 as a gaming device. As such, I seek...

Amongst all those in the poll, the one that's NOT listed is better screen. I want a 4.7" to 5.5" screen

As for features that ARE in the poll, I'd need to pick 2 out of #2, #4, and #5.
IIRC, IpT5 and IpT6 had 0.5 and 1 GB of RAM respectively. If 1 GB ain't going enough going forward, then that.
I heard the IpT6 actually took a hit on battery life vs. its predecessor, but I think this could be a lower proirity
more processor for better gaming and general usage, although I may regret voting on this if better battery life is recommended to offset this.

I suppose better camera could be nice, but my phone already does that (although TBF, the rear-facing camera on my LG G4 did "go bust", so a better backup would've been nice).

I’d also want a bigger screen. 6.5” ideally.
I prefer a small 4” phone (SE) when I’m out, but at home I want a big phablet. But it needs to be able to sync texts and phone calls with my SE via Continuity so that I don’t have to carry both devices around at home. iPad mini can but it’s much too big for a phablet, and an iPhone can’t sync texts and calls with another iPhone, so getting an iPhone Max is out. Also they’re pretty darn expensive for a secondary device. So I’d be interested in the iPod touch but only if it’s bigger than my SE.

I voted for faster cpu and more ram, but those are kind of a given.
Touch ID (gen2), stereo speakers, waterproofing, and maybe wireless charging would also be nice.
