Sorry for asking a question taht's definitely been answered before, but I couldn't seem to find the answer with search. Will the iPod touch be able to access the iTunes app store? If so, will doing so require that you buy some kind of software upgrade? Finally, if yes to that, would it be better to buy an iPod touch after the release of the new iPhone on July 11?

Thanks

1.Yes
2. 2.0 Software Update for 9.95
3. i don't think so but if you think you need it, yes

The update, as nintendude pointed out, is only going to cost $10. You will save that if you wait what's only a couple more weeks at this point, but then again it's only ten bucks.

I realize the 2 helpful posters above me have already covered the majority of it but I would like to... re-cover it in depth?

1. Yes, the iPod touch will be able to access the App Store, and buy applications through the iPod, or buy them on your computer and then sync them to your iPod.

2. In order to access the App Store or download applications, you will have to purchase the v2.0 software upgrade, available presumably sometime on July 11th (no later than that) for $9.95 plus some stupid tax. The v2.0 update will also include many more features than the App Store. You will be able to purchase the upgrade in iTunes.

3. If you purchase an iPod touch on or after July 11th, and it doesn't come with v2.0, then if you contact Apple Support you will be credited the $9.95 charge through your iTunes account. If you purchase the iPod before July 11th, you will have to purchase the upgrade for App Store functionality.
