Do you think apple has any intention of supporting the radio remote. Now that you have to take the ipod out of your pocket the remote makes more sense than ever.

i'm guessing they don't have the radio interface application built yet.

any thoughts?

If you just want the remote part, most dock-connector remotes should work fine.

On TUAW or Engadget they just posted about this, and I bet all the cheap dock connector remotes on EBay (without a radio) will work with the Touch.

I'm gonna order one sooner or later myself

OK I don't think the current radio remote works, but I guess we will see the following features on the new Touch remote:

HD radio support
Song "tagging" for download to itunes.

This HD tagging thing was publicly announced by apple in a press release. Combined with Itunes wifi store, this seems the best integration of the product.

The radio remote definitely does not work, and I'm not happy about it. What kind of an iPod is this, any way!? I hope it only a software issue and a future update, to get radio on the Touch.

just hooked up my FM remote and...

the only thing that works is volume control, which suprised me. Otherwise, none of the other controls work, not even the hold slider. at the top. I can live with remote volume control, but I do want FM and play functions again.

hope that helps.

Yeah, it only does volume, which is F*$#ing tacky in my opinion, seriously... I thought it was an ipod!

Has anyone used that Monster Radio thing with this ipod yet? I got an FM thing for the touch made by DLO called the TuneStick, it worked great! Until I actually went to plug in my headphones and low and behold, I had no place to connect them, as it was meant for the ipod video only, cuz it took up the whole bottom of the device. Does the monster one take up that whole space? I tried connecting the radio remote to that so I could have a headphone but for some reason the remote doesn't work when i do that (the TuneStick has another dock connecting port on the bottom of it, so you can have the ipod hooked up to the usb on ur computer and still control it with the remote)

That's a good news.

But again, Apple should really add back the support for the Radio Remote for its iPod touch. Any insider news on this, anyone? Thanks.

FWIW, I managed to get my Gear4 BluEye (remote/radio/bluetooth) working with my Touch this morning. The remote had to be firmware upgraded (which is only possible on a Windows machine!) and it has a few limitations when used with the Touch:

- radio works but the channel/frequency does not show on the Touch display (which makes navigating radio stations a bit difficult)
- volume control works but the slider doesn't move on the Touch's screen
- play/pause/forward/back all work
- calls can be received via bluetooth from your mobile phone, and outbound voice dialing is also working (surprisingly well with my Nokia N95)
- can't comment yet on battery usage as I've only just got it working

Considering you can pick these up for under £30 this might be an option for you.

Good luck,

Tom
