Do you think it's possible to turn the iPod Touch into a home phone given that there's now a few VoIP and free text apps.

would this work?

1. set up a home wifi.
2. download a VoIP and unlimited free text apps.
3. Make phone calls and text people over your home wifi.
4. Get Google Voice and it'll even have call waiting. right?

It should work -- if you don't mind wearing a headset during your calls. I don't think the Touch's speakers are good enough for a phone conversation. Plus, I'm not sure how it'll work with receiving incoming calls. But yeah, the technology is there to sidestep those telephone companies altogether. :D

Like the above poster said, it SHOULD work.

But incoming calls won't work....unless you keep that app open all the time. Which you basically just paid $200 for an expensive cordless.
