You can fix that for $45, assuming your iPod is jailbroken. People have gotten VOIP to work on the iPod Touch; I'm not sure about Skype specifically however.

We may see some sort of adapter someday that allows for a headset that can be used via Skype that will work with both the iPhone and Touch. The reason that I say this, is that while the data plan may be flat fee, actual talk calls cost in most cases. Skype would provide a nice alternative. The iPhone's built in speaker/mic may need to be bypassed for Skype to work. Edit: ^^ Looks like some alternatives are already starting to appear. Would expect more in the future.
