Ipod touch as Audio Recorder

So this may have been a subject already, but I can't seem to find it.

I want to make my ipod touch into a audio recorder for use with video production / video making.

I have the 8gb ipod touch before this current model. The one sold with the back to school program.

I believe it is technically the 2nd generation one? Since the 16/32gb are 3rd gen.....

Either way, how should I go about doing this? Has anybody done this?

I would like to plug in some high quality mics, though I am assuming that they woudl have to be miniphone, I could possible use a mixer? But what kind of modifications would I need to make/purchase to attach a microphone. I've seen some things taht plug into the docking area. What works the best?

Is there an app for audio recorder for the ipod touch?

Sounds like you have the third generation Ipod Touch. It does have a mic imput. I don't know the level of quality you'll get recording with the device but it is definitely doable. I have done some recording in the past when I had the same model. T

I used a mic similar to this.

This plugs right into the headphone jack. Only downside is when its plugged in you can't the playback through the speakers unless you unplug it.

The mic is pretty sensitive so it did do a decent job recording.
