Hello all,

Today, I had a client come in for a voice memo/email related question. The client was unable to send her voice mail through her email account, but after multiple tries, we were able to send her voice memo only through iMessage THEN it went through her email. Which is was a hassle, btw. Can anyone help me figure out why it won't just go through email instead of having to go through iMessage?

Thanks

Is the customer using iOS 7.x? If so, both Message and Mail attachments should be available options from within Voice Memos.

Record and save the voice memo
Select the desired memo from the list of memos
Tap the Share icon (box with up-arrow to the left of Edit)
Message and Mail icons should appear.

If that's not working, it's at least conceivable that the audio file is very large. Try recording a brief test message and see if you still encounter the same problem.

I think the client only had iOS 5 or 6... I didn't check, and I should have but wasn't thinking. I know she had the really old ipod touch with the camera in the back.

How big was the voice memo?
Some email accounts only allow so large of a file attachment.
some 10MB, some 5MB, some 3MB

I had an 18min voice memo that was just over 6MB and had to pull it off the phone and Dropbox it.

To be honest, I'm not sure. But it's weird that it would go through iMessage and that I could e-mail it to her through my iPhone, but she couldn't do it through her iPod Touch.

Why is it weird?

1) iMessages has a file size limit of 220MB (found, never specifically stated)
2) What is your email domain?
3) Does she have a different email domain (with different attachment file size limits)?

Well obviously I didn't know that iMessage had a file size limit. We have the same email domain it's from the school, which is gmail. I also tried my personal account which is also gmail.
