My thinking on this is they want to get all the impulse buyers to buy the comparatively cheaper nano. When christmas rolls around, I have a feeling they will be ramping up Touch ads big time, in order to create it as the 'must have' present this year. If they start advertising it now, it will be too hard too soon so to speak, and will drain consumer interest by the time Xmas comes. This sort of marketing tactic can be seen in movies, when a blockbuster movie is just about to come out, that is when you see 80% of it's marketing budget being spent.. in that 1 week before it releases.

The reason Apple never ran that particular ad is because NBC pulled all their shows from iTunes, so Apple doesn't want to have LOST in the ad.
