iPod touch iPod Touch dead

iPod Touch 2G 8GB is dead. Worked fine and then after charging it would not power up at all and is not recognized by itunes. I tried the "reboot" holding down the power and home buttons and still got nothing. The thing I am stuck on is this is the second time this has happened. Just last week I took it into the store and they couldn't recover anything either, so they replaced it. Now four days later the new one has done exactly the same thing. Any thoughts? Could it be a problem with the charger? My poor kiddo is getting really frustrated! TIA
